Ten simple steps to a more mindful way of life

  1. Maintain a good work-life balance. You only live once! Your life should be more than just work. Go for a walk, fulfill a dream you’ve had, look at the world around you and take pleasure in the small things in life.
  2. Even though we are constantly barraged by beauty standards and ideals, appreciate that your body is unique. You should therefore treat it as such. You may indulge from time to time, but you should also maintain a balanced diet! This includes what is called “5-a-day”, meaning a minimum of five portions of fruit and vegetables per day.
  3. Exercise sucks: banish that attitude! If you want to be kind to your body, you should integrate regular physical activity into your weekly schedule, ideally outdoors. Whether you’re in the gym or on a hiking trail, exercise stimulates your cardiovascular system and improves circulation. If you balk at the thought of exercise, keep in mind that twenty minutes is often enough to boost your metabolism.
  1. Take note of your surroundings to help escape the chaotic thoughts in your head! Often, it is the small and seemingly insignificant things in life that make you smile and fill your heart with joy. Be more mindful in order to live a more fulfilled life!
  2. Adequate sleep is important for your performance during the day. If you feel tired and worn down every day, you should examine your sleep habits. Adults should ideally sleep 7-8 hours per night. However, since every person is different, there is a variable range here, too: some people need less sleep, and others tend to need more. The rule of thumb: just try it out :)
  3. When was the last time you did something with your family? Or when was the last time you had dinner with good friends in order to relax and unwind? Make time for leisure and foster relationships with the people who are important to you.
  1. Are you familiar with this situation? Work is piling up on your desk, dishes are piling up in your sink, and the kindergarten just called to let you know that your child threw up... You think you need to handle everything at once and don’t know where to begin. Even if it’s difficult, try to stay calm and approach the problems one at a time. It is often more useful to take a deep breath and establish priorities rather than jumping headfirst into the thick of things.
  2. Every once in a while, read a good book and refrain from watching television at night! Reading not only promotes mental development, but also takes your mind off a stressful day.
  1. Take time to relax. Relaxation includes anything that lets your forget your hectic everyday life for a while. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a vacation or a top-of-the-line spa package - just something that helps you feel balanced and well. A leisurely coffee break, a short walk in the park, or a refreshing nap - take some time for yourself!
  2. Unmotivated and tired: do you often start your day in a negative mood? Do you lack motivation? Then think about the current course of your life and make plans for the future! Conscious setting of goals makes many things more meaningful and leads to a change in your general outlook and motivation.
